Spain certainly boasts an abundance of beautiful and varied
wine.
And, whatever your taste, one thing's for sure - with Spanish wines you'll get terrific value for money.
Below, you'll find a map showing the main wine regions of Spain.
Spanish wines are classified and regulated by something called Denominación de Origen, or DO for short - you'll discover this on the label.
In order to receive this award, the winery has to submit their wines for scrupulous testing and evaluation.
In spite of this, there are over 60 different Spanish DO's, and two makes - Rioja and Priorat have achieved DOC status.
DOC stands for Donomicación de Origen Califacada and denotes a particularly high quality wine.
For this reason, Rioja and Priorat are particularly well-known wine regions of Spain.
Other renowned wine regions include Ribera del Duero, Penedes, and Ribera del Duero, all of which are in the northern area of the country.
The southerly region of Spain - round Jerez - is famed for its sherries.
Returning to the north-east - in Catalonia - you'll find delicious cava, which is an increasingly popular sparkling wine, similar to Champagne.
